St. Clair College Launches Varsity Esports Program

St. Clair College has launched the first varsity esports program in Canada. The supported titles include Hearthstone, League of Legends, and CS:GO, with potential of new titles being added at a later time.

The program has been dubbed, “Saint Gaming”, led by coordinator, Shaun Byrne.

Byrne plans to keep a professional approach and stated, “Now that you are representing a brand, like St. Clair College and Saints Gaming, that is going to be a little bit more important. This program offers more than just a chance at competitive gaming … you are going to be getting a scholarship similar to what traditional varsity sports players get.” The addition of esports marks the 15th varsity sport supported by the college.

Tryouts take place at a college-hosted tournament on June 10th and 11th.
